ĐBP - A standout in the culinary traditions of Điện Biên Province's ethnic groups is xôi ngũ sắc, or five-coloured sticky rice, a signature dish of the Thái people. This vibrant dish is a central feature of their festivals and New Year celebrations, admired not only for its visual appeal and fragrant aroma but also for the deeper cultural meanings it embodies.

ĐBP - The unique living environment and climate of the highlands have shaped the distinct customs of the Mông people, one of which is the way they prepare dishes suited to their surroundings and weather.

ĐBP – Each year, on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, Pa Xa Lào, a village in Pa Thơm Commune, Điện Biên District, celebrates the Khẩu Hó Festival. This annual event, observed by the Lào ethnic group, honours the first rice harvest of the season, a significant moment for the community. This year’s festival took place on September 17 according to the solar calendar.

For generations, the Mông ethnic people have upheld their unique technique of paper-making, a time-honoured craft that serves both practical and cultural purposes.

ĐBP – Điện Biên province has been making significant efforts to preserve and promote the traditional cultures of its diverse ethnic groups. The province is home to 19 ethnic communities, each with unique cultural identities, customs, and practices. To uphold these cultural treasures, local authorities and communities have implemented various initiatives to protect traditional crafts, festivals, and customs from fading away, in the face of modern development.

ĐBP – The Tủa Chùa District People’s Committee on Saturday night held a ceremony to receive the provincial-level certificate for Chua Po Cave in Lao Xả Phình Commune, Tủa Chùa District, and to announce the recognition of the Tủa Chùa Market as a tourism site.

ĐBP - For centuries, the Dao people of Huổi Só Commune in Điện Biên Province's Tủa Chùa District have safeguarded their rich cultural heritage, including their unique attire, rituals, and village customs. Among these traditions, the Tủ Cải or cấp sắc (maturity ritual) stands out as a significant rite of passage for Dao men. In the Dao language, "Tủ" means to report, while "Cải" signifies a name.

ĐBP - Nestled at the foot of Hủa Ta Mountain in Mường Luân Commune, Điện Biên Đông District, the ancient Mường Luân Tower has stood resilient against the passage of time. This region is home to a vibrant mosaic of ethnic communities, including the Thái, Lao, Khơ Mú, and Xinh Mun, who have coexisted in harmony for generations.

ĐBP – In honour of the 113th anniversary of General Võ Nguyên Giáp’s birthday (August 25, 1911 - August 25, 2024), a photo exhibition titled ‘The Legacy of General Võ Nguyên Giáp with Điện Biên Phủ’ was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Quảng Bình General Museum in Đồng Hới City, Quảng Bình Province.

ĐBP – The People's Committee of Điện Biên Province has issued a decision to recognise Thẳm Quái Cave in Chiềng Sinh Commune, Tuần Giáo District and Chua Po Cave in Lao Xả Phình Commune, Tủa Chùa District as provincial heritage sites.

ĐBP - The H’Mông ethnic group, residing in the northern mountainous province of Điện Biên, comprises over 30 percent of the province’s population and typically lives in high mountain villages. Throughout their long history of settlement and development, the H’Mông have preserved many unique cultural traits. Their villages, particularly in Tủa Chùa and Mường Chà, are easily identifiable by the distinctive stone fences that encircle their homes and fields. Constructed without the use of cement or binding agents, these stone fences are meticulously and skillfully built, standing tall and sturdy.

ĐBP – The Hà Nội Days in Điện Biên Province programme, co-organised by the people's committees of Hà Nội and Điện Biên Province, will take place from August 9-11 in Điện Biên Phủ City.

Over centuries of settlement, the Lao people in Điện Biên Province have preserved and developed their unique traditional culture, most notably the Khăm Bản ceremony, also known as the village worship ceremony.
